My Famous Baked Beans

Just so you know, I'm not really a fan of baked beans. I despise baked beans in a can. But this, THIS recipe is absolutely TO. DIE. FOR. A friend brought these to a potluck meal at my house, and I was going crazy. I got the recipe from her and have been making it ever since, receiving many Oohs and Ahhs over them.

Baked Beans

Ingredients:
1 Large Can Van de Kamp's Pork & Beans
3/4 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter ('cause butter makes everything better!)
1 cup ketchup
2 slices uncooked bacon, chopped
3/4 Tbls Liquid Smoke

Mix all ingredients in an oven safe 5 quart pot. Bake in a 250 degree oven for as long as possible. I do this for at least 2-3 hours. If you need it soon, you can bake it at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. i haven't tried it in a crockpot, but I bet that would work too.

The last couple of times, I used half the butter it calls for, but if you use the whole stick of butter, it's very rich and dripping with yumminess. You can probably get at least 8-10 servings out of this batch, so I usually freeze half of it and use it up the next time we do BBQ. Yum.

  4. Thank you for posting your recipe.
Your recipe is very similar to mine, almost always assigned for family potlucks.
When short on time try cooking in the microwave. Cook on high in 5 minute intervals stirring after each. Stop when a little thinning than desired. They will thicken as they cool.
