Days of Summer - Day 1

I'm a copycat, and a follower. I'm taking a page out of Alysha's book and starting our own "30 Days of Summer" personal photo project.

Thirty days, thirty photos, documenting the summer of 2010. I tried Project 365, where you take a photo every day for a year, but it just didn't work for me, because like Alysha, the commitment was difficult. But capturing 30 days of our summer, 30 days of outdoor fun, lazy summer evenings, popsicle stained faces, water splashes, ocean waves, bug watching and BBQs, this I can do. Feel free to follow me on the journey.

Tonight was a lazy summer evening sort of night visiting the duck pond and looking for the babies.

Let's go find us some ducks!

One thing I love about raising my son in the city where I grew up is being able to take him to do the things I loved to do as a child. Like going to this very duck pond.

Springtime Through the Eyes of a Child

My son loves water. If there's a puddle, he will find it. If there is rain, he's running into it. I find him numerous times throughout the day "washing his hands" in the bathroom sink. Now that Spring has finally really sprung here in Southern California, I let him water the backyard with the garden hose. He was ecstatic!

He watered the roses.

He washed his car.

He tried to get Mommy. (watch out for the camera sweetie!!)

He watered the flowers outside his window.

He played and just reveled in the joy and freedom of a warm spring day.

You Capture: Spring in Oma's Garden

My Oma (the sentiment for grandma in German) had the most beautiful gardens. They were her pride and joy, even winning her the accolade of one of the "most beautiful homes" in our city one year. She spent hours upon hours, lovingly caring for her plants and flowers, often sharing her roses with friends and family.

I was blessed to be able to purchase her home after she died, a little over two years ago. Since becoming a homeowner, there are little things here and there that I have done to make the home mine, new floors, paint, etc. But there are a few things I hope will always stay the same. One of them being Oma's garden. 

"If we had no winter,

if we did not sometimes taste of adversity,

the spring would not be so pleasant;

prosperity would not be so welcome." 

While you enjoy the prosperity of spring, make sure you take time to stop and smell the roses.
